Dana and I just returned from a brief trip to Sequoia national forest with some family friends. We left Friday in about 100 degree heat in Santa Clarita, when we made it up to the rangers station we noticed some clouds moving in. Spending the next 90 minutes going 16 miles up hill we encountered this…
Yes that is rain and a lot of it in just a short span of time… we even had the pleasure of seeing some hail come pouring down on us. JOY!
Luckily though we had plenty of good luck on our side as we were able to close the night out with a beautiful view…
We setup camp and had some dinner and I had time to explore around a bit before it was too dark. The forest was beautiful and it was really neat to see the animals come out after the storm had passed. I caught this deer about 30 feet from our camp, it moved around a lot and we saw it multiple times during the trip.
The next morning we had an awesome sun rise and plenty of time to hang around and relax.
We ended up going to a place called crystal cave which is this huge underground cave with amazing crystal growths. The picture below is of a cavern that is pitch black, the animals around the cave chewed through the electrical cords so we had to bring in flash lights suffice to say it was an awesome experience.
The cave hike pretty much wiped us out for the rest of the day, it was only a 1 1/2 mile trek but it was uphill the entire way back and was pretty warm. On the way back we had our picture taken at the waterfall that was on the way.
We woke up Sunday and ended up taking the longest walk I have done in a long time. 5 miles total ending at the largest tree in the world, General Sherman (Largest by Volume).
It was an awesome trip and we are looking forward to being able to head back for a longer time period soon.
